The Third Fall of Jesus
On the way of the cross, we remember three falls of Jesus, each one deeper than the last. In the book of Proverbs, God Tells us "A just man falls seven times a day." In Scripture, the number 7 represents completion or totality, like the days of the week or the colors of the rainbow. It comes from when God Created the World in six days, or periods of light and dark, and on the Seventh day, He Rested, or Ceased, from His Work and, having Completed it, Hallowed or Consecrated it, thus Establishing an Eternal Covenant with Creation, with Man at the pinnacle of it.
This scripture means that a just, or righteous man, falls, or stumbles, throughout his entire life and even over the course of a single day. Looking at this further, the fact that he falls these seven times indicates that he has also gotten up seven times. Going a third step further, Our Lord Jesus Shows us that when you have fallen completely, under the weight of the Cross, when you are completely week [intended] and cannot get up anymore, The Father Will Raise you up With Him by it on the eighth, just as He then Raised Him Up on the Eighth Day after the Week was finished, from Death to New Life. "For six days shall you work and on the Seventh you shall rest; for, just as God Worked for Six Days and on the Seventh Day He Rested, so shall you do."
"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy burdened, and I Shall Give you Rest." Our Lord Jesus Fulfilled the Sabbath rest on the seventh day in the tomb. Yet, as He Showed when He Healed so many people on the Sabbath, He With The Father Is always Working for our Eternal Good. Now, we seek our Rest on the Lord's Day, which is More than just a twenty-four hour time period; it is the entrance into The Eternal Rest that God Has Won for us.
When you lay down an 8 on its side, you have the symbol for Infinity and a Pair of Eyes that Are always upon us. Lord, when my burdens become too heavy, and I fall under the weight of the Cross, please Help me to remember that You Have already Fallen Completely for me, and You Will Raise me Up again in Love With You Forever. Amen.
